Hello! I am blessed to teach the students at Carl Schurz Elementary. The 2023-2024 school year will be my 15th year at Carl Schurz and my 18th year in education. I was born and raised in Austin, Texas, and went to college at Trinity University in San Antonio. I studied all sorts of musical subjects there. My primary instrument is the piano, but I also took voice lessons, and played in the Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Handbell Choir, University Chorus, Piano Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble. I graduated with my Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and a Bachelor of Music Education in 2005, and finished in 2006 with a Master of Arts in Teaching.
I taught for three years in North East ISD in San Antonio before moving to New Braunfels ISD. My additional training includes a Kodály certification from Texas State University, and an Orff-Schulwerk certification from Trinity University. In addition to teaching our amazing elementary students, I served as the President for the Kodály Educators of Texas, and present various music teacher workshops in south and central Texas. I have also had the privilege of presenting at national music conferences across the nation.
In my free time, I enjoy gardening, reading, and playing with my husband and pets (dog, cat, and chickens!).
